I’ve always loved the old shed. It’s one of my favorite things that I pass on my walking route. I found out it is on the edge of what is now city property. I am pretty sure it is eventually destined for the bulldozer. In the past, I’ve been too chicken to go inside due to my fear of rodents. But this time, my curiosity was stronger than my fear.
I poked my camera through the crack in the door.
Then I waded through thorny blackberry bushes and went around back and found that part of the back wall is missing…
I beg you, do not call Crimestoppers on me………
You thought I came home with that wonderful chippy old door, with its old rusty hardware, didn’t you? I wish.
There was also the most wonderful wagon wheel inside with a red hub. RED! Sigh…
No, evidently I am more into petty crime.
I came home with this old wooden crate, scrubbed it all up, and it now sits happily next to the couch and the old blue dresser…
I must admit, my tender conscience is bothering me just a wee bit.
(Dear City of Portland,
I stole an old wooden crate from your abandoned shed.
If you want it back, leave a blog comment, and I will return it.)
Still following,
Elizabeth

I could just see you dragging that door and crate in one hand, and rolling that wheel down the street with the other.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the crate.
Beautiful, magical photographs.... And no I won't tell ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Maybe the City of Portland will write that you're welcome to the door AND the wagon wheel! :) I love the way you rescued the book crate. I have no vision for things like that, but I love seeing what other people create.
ReplyDeleteI think you have been absolved of the crime - you wrote them a letter and they have not yet responded. Don't you think they would have been at your door the moment your words were published? Love what you did with the box. Waiting to see the door and the wagon wheel come home with you!

this is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI think you should go back for the wheel and the door.
I would have taken the crate too! ♥
ReplyDeleteDear Elizabeth, I really think you SHOULD write or call the city, and ask them if they'd like you to disassemble that shed for them and then take it all away! My mom's property had an old shed on it that we took apart and brought home, and now use as a funky old tool shed. It adds a lot of character to our yard! And if they don't want you to take it, and you're talking to the right person, ask them if you can take away a few parts. Voila! No more issues with your conscience!
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness friend! I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOVE THOSE PICTURES OF THE SHED!
