Yesterday’s temperatures reached 116 here in the east end of the Palm Springs area where we are vacationing. The heat didn’t bother me in the least because whenever I wanted to I could find a shady spot, or go inside where it’s air conditioned, or take a dip in my choice of three different swimming pools. Unfortunately, real life isn’t like vacation. People have to live and work in this relentless heat.
My life, your life, isn’t always vacation either. Obviously. We face times of the seemingly relentless heat of fiery trials. We face times of threatening winds, torrential rains, icy storms.
It’s easy to rest when you are away from real life, when you are on vacation in a beautiful place.
But in real life, when the heat is relentless, when the winds blow fierce and cold, we need a beautiful place to rest, a place of refuge.
“and the Lord will create over…every dwelling place…a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory shall be a canopy (a defense of divine love and protection). And there shall be a pavilion for shade in the daytime from the heat and for a place of refuge and a shelter from storm and from rain.” Isaiah 4:5-6(Amplified Bible)
True rest is found, not in a beautiful place, but in a Beautiful Person. He is our Shade by Day, our Fire by Night, our Covering of Love and Protection, our Refuge, our Shelter…
our Rest.

Elizabeth
