It’s relatively easy to say, “I believe in Jesus.”
In this verse in John, we tend to ignore the five little words, “as the Scripture has said”.
Maybe there is a key in those words, a reason why we are not bubbling over with springs and rivers of living water.
Maybe, just maybe, we tend to worship a Jesus made in our own image, not the Jesus of the Scripture.
In the past few months I have re-read all the writings of John and recorded all the titles of Jesus in the gospel of John, in 1,2, and 3 John, and Revelation. In just the first chapter of Revelation alone, we have so much revelation of Who Jesus is!
the Word of God
the One Who Is, Who Was, and Who Is To Come
the Faithful and Trustworthy Witness
the Firstborn of the Dead
the Prince and Ruler of the Kings of the Earth
He Who Ever Loves Us
He Who has once, (for all), loosed and freed us from our sins by His own blood
the Alpha and Omega
the Beginning and the End
the Almighty (Ruler of All)
the First and the Last
Son of Man
the Everliving One
When we have true revelation of Who Jesus really is, then doesn’t relying on Him, trusting in Him, cleaving to Him, happen more readily?
Praying that your Easter is abundantly blessed,
filled with revelation of Who Jesus is,
and flowing with springs and rivers of living water.
Elizabeth

ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I think you got it right with the statement: "Maybe, just maybe, we tend to worship a Jesus made in our own image, not the Jesus of the Scripture."
ReplyDeleteThat is really something to think about and to refocus the praise on Him according to the scriptures, not Him according to us! Thanks for the fresh perspective!! I hope you're having a great Easter! :)
