Tablescape and lemon cake!

I knew I wanted to accent the table with bright spring-y yellow for Easter.
Some yellow mums in a white pitcher and mini café au lait bowls filled with jelly beans
top some yellow polka dot ribbon from the Dollar Tree.

Dollar Tree goblets, gotta love the price!

All the cleaning, cooking, baking, and table setting took place on the Saturday before Easter,
a beautiful, sunny day.  Unfortunately, Easter day dawned rainy and gray.
009
I think the bright colors helped to chase the gloomy gray away though,
and for sure sharing Easter dinner with family and friends that we love did!

The only thing better would have been to have my South Carolina daughter and her family,
and my Missouri daughter home for Easter too.

To go along with the “yellow theme” one of the desserts I made was my favorite lemon cake,
a recipe clipped years ago from the Oregonian newspaper.

This cake is moist, and if you keep it refrigerated it is a perfect cold, lemon-y dessert
for the, (hopefully), approaching sunny, warm days.

Happy baking!

  2. Your table is BEAUTIFUL. And I love a lemon cake. Any recipe for cake that begins with "one box cake mix" is my kind of cake.

  3. Can I just tell you how gorgeous your photos always are??!! :-) This is such a lovely tablescape and my hubby would flip for that lemon cake. We have some leftover lemon/thyme/cornmeal cake with lemon glaze from Easter but it is getting gobbled up fast!

  8. That cake looks fantastic. There is something about this time of year that makes me like lemon. I guess because it's so sunshiney looking of a fruit. I love your table. You just can't get much prettier, IMO, than blue and white and yellow.

(And btw, I laughed right out loud at what your husband calls your area under the stairs. Mine has called the den closet the same thing. Oh well... I'm trying, I'm trying.

  9. Love! The ribbon runner is such a great and easy punch of color. I don't think I could bake that cake, because I'd eat all the lemon curd straight from the jar! Now following! Hope you'll visit me!
