Friday favs…”vintage unsolved mystery”

021

I’d been looking for something “interesting” to hang on the wall in the stair landing right above my antique trunk.

On the same day I found my Goodwill trunk, I found the “something interesting”.  For a mere $4.99 I brought it home, cleaned it up, and rubbed it smooth with some furniture wax.

I hung it on the wall above the antique trunk and draped a small red, white and blue quilt on it in keeping with the upcoming fourth of July holiday.  Then I took my first cutting of lavender from my very own home grown lavender plant and hung a small bunch on it to dry.  I’m lovin’ it!  But for the life of me, I really have no idea what it is! Do you?

  1. Some kind of fruit/veggie tray. . .maybe? It looks like the vintage grape tray I have, except the slats are wider on mine. I don't really know, but you could certainly have a glass to fit the top and use it as a great, quirky serving tray! :)

  2. I really don't know what it is but could it be for dipping candles in wax? Whatever it is, it is fantastic!

  4. I'm with Ceekay. It made me think of a rack to hang candles on after they are dipped.

  6. I was going to guess a rack to hang herbs and flowers to dry? It is one heck of a deal for that price though.

  7. I agree with everyone else, Elizabeth. I think it was used for candle dipping. Whatever the use, it's got a beautiful patina and looks great on your wall! I wanted to thank you so very much for taking the time to answer my question about picking out the right devotional each day and praying scripture. I will definitely look for the book that you suggested to help me on my faith journey. God bless you, my sweet friend! ♥ (Oh, and I came across a great blog tonight that blessed my soul so much. Check out breakformom.com. You'll love it!)

  8. I didn't have a clue, but after reading comments about a rack for drying herbs or dipped candles, I'll pretend that that was MY hunch all along too.

All I know is that I like it. You have a great eye.

  10. I don't have a clue, either - but I love what you did with it! It's perfect there and, as always, you've found just what it needs on it.

  11. I saw a tray like that at one of the stores around here. I was wondering the same thing as you...what is it? You sure got yours for a good price :)
