He waits for me
and I waste the first 10 minutes of our time together apologizing
that I just don’t love Him enough
that my love is so weak
so fickle
that I’m so easily distracted by other loves
lesser loves
that my eyes lust after things that don’t satisfy
and my heart follows along
But here I am, back again, at the Place I Belong
apologizing, again
for my wandering ways
It’s as if He rolls His eyes
and interrupts me as I’m speaking
He says, “It’s not about how much you love Me, it’s about how much I love you.”*
And He blows me away with His words
He blows my excuses away
The excuse of my own weakness crumbles and falls
As I sink into His embrace and let Him love me
*1 John 4:10-16
Still following,
Elizabeth
Beautiful! I do the same thing. Thank you so much for pointing back to Jesus' love and grace. The Lord bless you with reminders of His love today, sister!
ReplyDeleteWhy do my prayers begin with "I'm sorry I've been away from you." Thank you for the beautiful words to remind me of His love.
ReplyDeleteOh, this moves me, Elizabeth! I spend too much time apologizing too.
ReplyDeleteWhile I believe we need to seek his forgiveness, I find myself coming before Him almost regretably because I have failed in many ways. Still learning daily to grasp ahold of His love and grace thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteso true! he is SO good to us, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I needed this so much after the experience I posted about today! What a tender word of love and truth.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! If not for His love. . . .
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the line in Misty Edward's song that says "I knew what I was getting into, and I called you. I knew what I was getting into when I said your name, but I said it just the same". He knows our weaknesses and He knows our love is often weak. HIs love is so much greater!
ReplyDeleteYou just described my relationship with Him perfectly. Just perfectly. I loved this.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post!! "oh, how He loves me!" thank you, Jesus!!
ReplyDeleteI found you through "My Freshly Brewed Life" and I am so glad I did!

ReplyDeletenever stop writing. you draw us closer to Jesus, dear Elizabeth... such a gift.
ReplyDeleteSimply Beautiful. It reminds me of the relationship with my sons. It is not what you do or how much I see you - it is only that I love you!
