Christmas is coming! Hurrah!

In five days, ready or not, it will be Christmas!
Tomorrow, I have to bake Cinnamon Cranberry bread
and also some yeast rolls for a family get-together,
and there are some Christmas cards that I still need to get in the mail.

Not too many years ago, a few days before Christmas
we had a huge snowstorm that virtually shut down our city for days.
It was rather liberating.
Roads were closed, schools shut down, and many businesses were shut down as well.

The hustle and bustle ceased city-wide.
I remember my Hubs and me pulling our grandkids around our neighborhood on sleds.
All the neighbors were out and about shoveling their walks or playing in the snow.
Everyone was smiling, greeting one another, relaxed.
We were all forced to let go of all the running around and errands,
to let go of what we couldn't get done,
and to embrace what we'd been given,
a rare white Christmas.

Everytime I start to feel "angsty" or tense with the list of things I think still need to be done before Christmas,
 I remember that year.
Christmas will still come,
even if some of my friends and family get our Christmas card late,
or even not at all.
Christ the Savior was born, and we will still celebrate His birth,
with or without Cinnamon Cranberry Bread.
Hallelujah!

So, I pause, take a deep breath, and let God's peace rule my mind and heart.
Christmas is coming!
Hurrah!

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
It is a shame that people get so caught up in the rush and bustle of Christmas.......and forget the reason and meaning of this special Season.

  2. We had a big snowstorm a few days before Christmas that crippled our area three years ago and even though it wasn't great at the time...no power or water, I still remember it was such a peaceful time. :) I can relate to the "tense" feelings about my list. Today I'm in the homestretch. Our daughter and son in law will be here this evening so my "to do" list is a mile long today!! =P Just reading a few blogs this morning while I eat breakfast. :) Have a Merry Christmas!! :)

  3. Just the reminder I needed today. The last of ministry responsibilities has been done - now, just finishing up and getting ready for family to arrive Christmas morning. Thank you for reminding me that it doesn't matter that my cards aren't in the mail (hopefully going today!) Have a blessed Christmas, dear friend.

  4. I love this post--I think I'm going to enjoy Christmas (and the prelude) just a little bit more than I would have otherwise. Merry, merry Christmas dear friend. I love you!
