Trust...

I've been a lazy blogger this week.
I've been enjoying having my husband home and my family all around me.
I haven't cooked since the pre-Christmas and Christmas day non-stop cooking marathon.
We've been surviving on the leftovers.

Today, the Hubs and I had a date.
We did a little antiques looking and some gift card spending at World Market,
then went out for a delicious late lunch.
When we got home, I put on my pajamas and climbed in my bed at 5 p.m.,
my Bible and journal and my computer with me.
It feels heavenly to be lazy after all of the holiday busy-ness.

The day after Christmas, the Hubs and I, with assistance from my grandson,
undecorated the whole house.
I was ready for things to be clean and uncluttered and back to normal
after having the Christmas decorations up since right after Thanksgiving.

Last night, my three daughters and I had a girl's night out and went to see Les Miserables.
We all loved it.

Well, now that I've told you more than you want to know about what I've been up to,
I'll explain the photo of the chalkboard and verse in my dining room.
For quite a few years now,  I've prayed and asked God to give me a theme word and/or verse
 for the coming new year.
Last year, my word was DELIGHT.
The year before it was HOPE.
This year, can you guess what it is?
TRUST.
I find that I'm good at saying I trust God,
but then I try to fix things, situations, circumstances, and even people, myself!
God, has been showing me, that when I really trust Him and take my hands off,
 He does amazing things.

So, what have you been up to since Christmas,
and do you have a verse or word for 2013?

  1. You deserve to be a bit 'lazy', my friend. You really weren't lazy, you know! I've slowed my pace and have enjoyed it after the busy-ness of the last days. Because my dear, little mother couldn't physically handle all of the excitement and energy of a big family gathering I put together more than one so she could spend time with those she loves much in smaller groups. We had four days straight of entertaining - meals, gift exchanges and precious times together.

Love your word for the new year. This year - my first to have a word - it was HOPE. I didn't have a year for next year until yesterday when it 'jumped' into my heart! My word for the coming year is DELIGHT! I had forgotten that it was your word this last year. Looks like I'm following your footsteps. God has dropped it into my heart in such a strong way - and I am delighted!

  2. With fear of what is coming in our country, I have been asking God to give me strength not to fear but to be victorious in any situation. Once I realized what I needed and asked for it I was amazed at how God has answered my prayer. I have come into contact with the most amazing verses about strength and books and people, all reinforcing the theme. One book that is funny and uplifting was by Ronda Rich-There's a better day a comin-. All ways God has seen to my request and I am gaining strength to face what God allows.

  3. Elizabeth, that verse from Jeremiah is my first memory verse for the Siesta Scripture team! I love that God confirmed that through you. A few years ago, the Lord took me through a huge trust "training", but, like shrilgirl, I sense a refresher course so that fear doesn't grab my heart.

  4. What a fun date with your husband, and to get home and in bed so early is fabulous! I really want to see Les Mis, too. This week Heath started back up to a very busy schedule and I'm at home sick. So, I'm just continuing to enjoy the Christmas decor since I feel too bad to put it away.
We got some beautiful snow last night, and I'm enjoying it so much from the comfort of my couch. :) Good to hear from you!
    Blessings,
    Leslie

  6. I have not decided on my word for the year yet, so much happened in the last four months it seems that I am a bit scattered in thought. Right now I am waiting, my first year was gratitude, doing the 1,000 gifts then last year it was Intentional. That could be the word again but at this time prayers are needed.
    So I wait.
Hope we can meet this year it would be fun to have lunch sometime.

  7. I tried to reply to Thoughts for the Day, but it wouldn't let me for some reason, so I'll put it here: "Be still before the LORD and WAIT patiently for him . . . Psalm 37:7 Just one of the many verses on waiting for the Lord. Maybe that's her word for the year?

As for YOU, Elizabeth, even bloggers need down time! Sometimes we need to re-charge our batteries, so we can do what we need to do next--like more of your wonderful blog posts that we are looking forward to in 2013.

Have a blessed and trusting New Year!

  9. Hi Elizabeth,
I, too, have been enjoying a week with family, and without schedules...so nice to be able to relax and be unrushed. Although, today I started feeling as though I'll be ready to get back to a schedule later this week.

Trust was my One Word for 2012. At times I felt as though God was turning me inside out with all He was teaching me. But I wouldn't go back. I'm announcing my One Word for 2013 in my blog post on Tues. Jan. 1. :)

Thanks for linking up with The Sunday Community! Hope to have you visit again.

    God bless,
    Laura

  12. What a lovely week you've had! I've never done a one word for the year thing but I have been thinking a lot about wisdom lately so if I had t choose I think that may be where I focus my attention.

    Have a blessed new year!

  13. Glad you had some good, restful and enjoyable time with your hubby and other dear ones.

Re: this year's focus the Lord dropped it in just today. I posted about it today, which I had not anticipated. Based on Ps. 40 it is being "solid". That's what I want to be/do this year. Be solid to and for the Lord to draw others to Him and be used as seed. We'll see how it plays out for the year(s).

Bless you and yours... hope to see you again. [Maybe April??]

  15. Love your thoughts on trust. I find myself surrendering, trusting and then slowly taking the situation back and then repeating the process all over again...My word for this year is one of your previous ones - HOPE.

  16. Stopping by from the One Word Community. What a beautiful blog and a beautiful thought---to simply trust. It is such a lovely place to be, but so difficult at times. May God richly bless you in your quest to trust Him more this year.

My word for this year is Enough.
