Have you seen that Ball has produced blue canning jars in honor of their company's centennial celebration?
I bought a box of 6 of them at Target, and decided to make them into summer drinking glasses.
It's easy peasy to do!
I followed these instructions.
I put the lid on an old jar, (so if the jar broke I wouldn't be sad),
set the jar on a firm surface, and holding the jar still with one hand drilled the hole using a 3/8 inch drill bit.
It worked fine and the lids didn't buckle.
I bought 3/8 inch neoprene grommets at Home Depot.
It takes a bit of work to get them all of the way in the hole,
but using a stiff plastic straw from a Starbucks cup to help push them through worked for me.
Really cute for outdoor suppers on the patio, don't you think?
And it's my favorite kind of project, cheap and easy!
still following,
I saw they were bringing back the blue jars. I love them. Have to pick up some soon!
ReplyDeleteThese were so quick and easy to make...my kind of project!
DeleteAww, they turned out lovely!! ENJOY!!
ReplyDeleteThe fun part is, I can use the lids I made for drinks, or use regular lids if I want to use the jars for something else, or use no lids if I want to plop some flowers in them!
DeleteThis is a great idea! I love these blue summer jar glasses!
ReplyDeleteMe too, and it was so easy!
DeleteI absolutely love these! What a fantastic idea. Everything tastes better in a mason jar, I think ;)
ReplyDeletePerfect for summer! Thanks so much for popping by!
DeleteWhat a great idea! I bought my blue jars at Fred Meyer. They are in a vintage milk bottle carrier - on my washer in the laundry room. Why are they there? Just resting and waiting to be used for something special. In the meantime they brighten a dull spot a bit!

Glad you got some! Have Dave make some sippy lids for you, then get some plain lids and you can use them for other things too!
DeleteWow! Love those jars.. I have not seen any of these "centennial celebration jars" I am so going to look for some. Love this idea...especially for the Grands. they would love them. Thanks for posting! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the grands are gonna love them!
DeleteOh, nice! AND, just a couple of weeks ago, I found a 2 gallon drink dispenser at World Market that looks like a giant blue mason jar! It was $20, but we had a 20% off coupon. (We saw it advertised in Country Living magazine. Brand name is Yorkshire.) When I asked the sales associate about them, she said they went out of the door as fast as they came in, and to check back in July. I explained that my coupon was expiring today, and then she remembered that there was one in the back that they had saved for someone, who had failed to pick it up. So there it was, waiting for me. Thanks be to God!
ReplyDeleteI've seen those at World Market. Tempting!
DeleteOK, now THIS is freakishly Providential. I just saw some very cool mason jars with lids like this somewhere online and was thinking how much I would love them. I didn't want to pay their price. (They also had handles, but I don't need handles.)
ReplyDeleteI love this is the biggest way and MUST do it!!
Thanks so much.
The good news is how easy it is!
DeleteLove those jars and love how you fixed the lids for straws. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI'm super pleased with how they turned out at well, Amy!
DeleteJust realized where I saw the jars I mentioned in my earlier post. It was BHG magazine. The page was still sitting open on the counter of my crathroom when I went in there. I'm very stoked about this.
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo me!! I love it, Elizabeth. And I shop at Target all the time.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, your pics are amazing!
Pinning and totally stealing this idea!
ReplyDeleteWe are getting a Target store ......definitely going to be looking for these on opening day! I used mason jars for our outdoor table for my hubbies birthday. I loved the country feel it created for the table. I hope you will stop by. Take care!
ReplyDeleteI saw these on Pinterest. Knowing someone I know made them, makes me want to take the plunge :) You're so crafty... I love that. Just wish I could live closer to you so I could indulge with you. Thanks for linking with What'cha Doing Wednesday, that's just floated my boat.
ReplyDeleteThese came out so cute. We are featuring them at this weeks party. Thanks so much for sharing with Adorned From Above's Blog Hop. The party will be back this week starting Tuesday and 8:00PM mountain time. We can't wait to see what you have to share this week.
