The newest Goodwill is right near my bank and the grocery store we shop at,
so it's very "convenient" to pop in for a few minutes while I'm out running errands.
This week I popped in and spotted this 8 book set of Dickens, dated 1885.
They were $1.99 each.
I wasn't too sure if I should get them or not, so I left them there.
When I told my Hubs about them, he said to go back a.s.a.p. and get them.
So, being the submissive wife that I am, I did!
Aren't they lovely?
And, YAY!, no smokey or musty smell like many old books can have.
The drawings inside are amazing.
You'll also notice another little french mustard jar has been added to my collection.
I found it at an antique store we stopped at on our way home from the coast last weekend.
This silver plated tray is from Pottery Barn,
but I found it at the Goodwill when I went to pick up the Dickens books.
It was half off, so I got it for $3.50.
I am not fond of super ornate things,
so this tray with it's simple engraving is perfect to me.
When I went to check out at the Goodwill,
the checker asked if I qualified for the senior discount.
Since I'm 55, I do, so the Dickens books and the Pottery Barn tray together cost me just a bit over $16.
Hurray for beautiful bargains!
Well, it's almost Friday, friends.
Have a HAPPY, HAPPY Friday
and
a BLESSED Saturday!
Amazing!! Love those books!....and the tray and the mustard jar. You really got a bargain on the books and tray! Blessings, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy! I'm super pleased with my bargains as well!
DeleteI am SO glad you went back and got them! I love to collect vintage books, and these are extraordinarily gorgeous! I love to imagine who owned them , who looked at them with a keen eye, or decorated their front parlor with them. Glad your hubs sent you back! They actually give me shivers!!!
ReplyDeleteI am very excited and happy that I went back for the books as well. I'm thinking they will be especially lovely to display with autumn decor.
DeleteThe books are wonderful vintage find. At our GW they would have been $4.00 each. xo, olive
ReplyDeleteI was kind of surprised at their price as well, Olive!
DeleteOh, my! Those books are SO beautiful. I'm getting the shivers right along with Nantucket Daffodil!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rebecca!
DeleteWhat a steal for a beautiful set of classics! One summer in the 90's I decided to read every Charles Dickens book I could get my hands on. I went through about six of them and came to realize the stories are all similar. I need to get back to them and read the ones I didn't get to.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are not a senior citizen!
DeleteOK, I'm jealous of your finds!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Don't be jealous, Stacey, just start hunting the Goodwill near you!
DeleteWhat a treasure you found in those books--
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the silver tray--
I need to spend more time at GW!
BTW, my hubby used the Foundations and Boundaries post as part of his lesson he taught last Monday at the Ranch--gave all the guys a copy of it--just thought you might like to know that you are being "read" there. It was wonderful!
How awesome is that! I'm so excited that something I wrote was helpful to the guys at the ranch!
DeleteThe books are beautiful! So glad you went back to get them!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbie, I'm glad that I went back and got the books as well.
