On Friday, which is the hubs day off and our date day, he asked me what I wanted to do.
I've been wanting to visit a lavender farm, so since it was a beautiful day for a drive, that's what we did.
We drove to Sauvie Island, which you can read about on the link.
It's a large island on the Columbia River.
I imagined a large lavender farm with acres and acres of lavender fields.
Instead it was a quirky little place, with one small field of lavender.
The owner was so nice, and allowed me to roam freely through the lavender with my camera.
There was no pressure to buy anything, but of course I did!
I was able to cut a large bunch of lavender for drying for only six dollars.
After we left the lavender farm, we continued our drive and explored more of the island.
I'd say that our date day was just about perfect in every way!

We went to a quirky little lavender farm in Hood River. Like you, I expected large fields of lavender, but it was pretty small. I guess a little lavender goes a long way. It was a festival so there were booths and live music. And we got to pick lavender, too - which I now have drying!

DeleteRight in our own backyard. :-) I sure would like to take that drive on of these days. I loved the Osprey nest picture. We have nest close to our house. I read about them on the internet. They mate for life, have 2-3 babies and sometimes their nests can weigh up to 1,000 pounds.

ReplyDeleteAnne, I had to dig up and replace the lavender in my yard this year. I think last February's snowstorm was the culprit.

DeleteEspecially love your macros of the lavender, although the remaining images could certainly be in a travel magazine! Here in dry NE Oregon, a woman and her sister planted lavender on a slope beneath the old family home. This is the second year she has set up a little tent to sell lavender "gifts" along Hwy 82 on the outskirts of Elgin.
