Frugal faux metal letters for wall decor...

I did a little project in the most impossible to photograph spot in the house,

the front entry hall.

Below is the hallway as seen from the living room.

Turn the corner at the end of the hall and the window in the photo above is on your left

 and the front door is in front of you.

 I wanted some galvanized metal letters that spelled H-O-M-E for over the entryway window.

They used to have them at Michael's craft store but I haven't been able to find them anymore.

Pottery Barn kids has some, but at $14 each I didn't think I should spend $56.

(We do have a May wedding for our youngest daughter to pay for after all!)

So, I decided to see if I could mimic the look for less.

I bought the MDF letters at Walmart for $1.99 each.

Then I bought a can of Rustoleum Ultra 2 Metallic Aluminum spray paint and sprayed the letters.

When dry I buffed them with a little black shoe polish and a soft cloth

 to give them a less shiney and more galvanized look.

The letters didn't come with anything on the back to hang them with.

I simply hot glued some paper clips on the back and they work perfectly as hangers.

I wouldn't say the project turned out to be perfect, but for under $12 total it's not too bad!

The hardest part of the project was figuring out how to evenly space the letters on the wall.

A simple no sew pennant garland made with triangles of gray and white polka dot fabric, 

some gray and white bakers twine and my trusty glue gun is the finishing touch.
