Is there anyone out there who doesn't know how to make no-bake chocolate haystack cookies?
Surely not!
Just in case there is, you will thank me for this go-to, quick and easy, everybody loves them treat.
The old Better Homes and Gardens Cookies and Candies Cookbook's page with this recipe on it
is smeared with chocolate covered finger prints from my girls when they were growing up.
They weren't very old when they figured out that when they had a hankering
for something chocolatey and sweet that paired perfectly with a glass of cold milk,
they could whip up a batch of no-bakes in minutes.
Now, the next generation, my grandkids, are eating no-bakes from that same recipe.
This guy likes the peanut butter version.
No-Bake Chocolate Haystacks-
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup dry baking cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter (or peanut butter!)
3 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Dash of salt
In saucepan bring first 4 ingredients to boiling, stirring to prevent scorching.
Remove from heat and stir in remaining ingredients.
Using a tablespoon, scoop or small measuring cup,
drop in mounds onto waxed paper or parchment paper.
Cool, (put in fridge to hurry this process), and enjoy!

My dear mother used to make these and I think I've made them by the thousands through the years. They were always a favorite of my kids. I think it's time to make them our grandkids!

I didn't eat any when I made them for the grandkids the other day, but boy I sure wanted to!
