The buds on the tulip tree branch were closed like pussy willows when I brought it inside,
and placed the end of it in an old soda pop bottle filled with water.
I put the branch and bottle inside my galvanized pitcher
and wondered if I could force this branch to bloom indoors.

I'm glad to say that this experiment was a happy success.
By tomorrow some of the blooms may be fully open.

Forcing paperwhite bulbs to bloom at Christmastime, hyacinth bulbs in January,
and now tulip tree blossoms in February!
It's so cheery to have touches of spring blooming in the winter.

DeleteBeautiful blooms... and like the others, I love your tin pitcher! The blooms look so soft and lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteYou have a green thumb, lady. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh friend, I really don't have a green thumb. There's no real trick to getting a branch to bloom indoors, all it takes is water and a warm house.
DeleteSo pretty, love the details of them which you've captured beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Becs. It was fun to get them to bloom and to photograph them.
DeleteSo pretty, my paperwhites are blooming now!
ReplyDeleteKristy, thank you so much! I love paperwhites, too!

ReplyDeleteLily over from TT
Lily, it was fun to get this branch to bloom indoors and to photograph it.
DeleteSo pretty! I love the tiny delicate blooms and fuzzy green leaves.
ReplyDeleteI love these blooms, too, and it was fun to photograph them.
DeleteThey are so delicate and such a soft pink! I found some similar buds on a tree in a sheltered memorial garden on the EOU campus the other day....the tree isn't labeled, but I thought it might be magnolia. I'll bet it's a tulip tree! When I went to school at OSU, there were beautiful tulip trees here and there on campus. Is this early for this tree?
ReplyDeleteThey may be a magnolia but I've just heard them called tulip trees. Outdoors the buds are still shut tight on the tree, but inside in the warm they bloomed!
DeleteWonderful experiment with high success. Beautiful photos. I especially like the composition of the one with the two buds and the top of the pitcher.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Earl! It was so fun to bloom these indoors and to photograph them.
DeleteLovely spring inside, and that galvanized pitcher is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carola! Tulips, lilacs and primroses are for sale in front of my grocery store now. Spring is on the way!
DeleteBeautiful, soft airy shots. Glad your forcing plants to bloom is working.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Abrianna!
