As we drive west and get nearer the sea,
I never fail to remember Daddy telling us kids,
the seven of us packed like sardines into the back of the station wagon,
"First one to see the ocean gets a nickel!".
Now, decades later, my heart still quickens at the first glimpse of the sea.
By the sea, I never fail to find refuge,
to be soothed and somehow knit back together.
It seems that walking there on the sandy shore,
the Creator's words, "Let there be!" are still reverberating
as I look at His massive, majestic masterpiece.
By the sea, I am reminded that God is well able to handle everything in my one small, messy life.
I am comforted.
I am relieved.
I am at peace.
By the sea...

Hi Elisabeth, your pictures here are serene. Thank you so much for the encouraging comment over at my blog I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless
This came to me while I read your post and studied your gorgeous pictures. My husband and I are small group leaders at church. We took a four-week training class to do it. During our sessions, we discovered the different ways each of us are drawn to worship God...through nature was one of my strongest ways. Sounds like it is for you too, :) xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteToo few times have I seen the sea with my eyes......
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college, I had an LP album by Rod McKuen. "The Sea" was one of my favorite selections on it. His poem & voice with sounds of the sea in the background.....Oh, my!
Beautiful pictures! Also visiting from Holley's and thanks for the encouraging comment on my blog
ReplyDeleteBeing a Louisiana native, I've not had a lot of opportunities to see the sea. However, a few years ago Hubby and I along with our best friends made a trip out to California and rode along Hwy 1. I shall never forget the breathtaking views of that massive expanse of water; of the rushing waves crashing against the rugged rocks and the sun catching the spray - time after time. God's faithfulness is like that: Over and over again, never changing and always reflecting His love. Thank you for this beautiful reminder to me today.
ReplyDeleteYour words really capture how I feel about being around water in general. A lake, the ocean, a cascading river or even a quiet pond. Enjoyed being at the sea with you through pictures. And the book Savor really is wonderful. I'm wild about the cover. Weird like that!
ReplyDeleteIncredible photos of the ocean. I feel the same way and love to hear the ocean waves as well. :)
ReplyDeleteYEA! Thank you so much! I'm too excited to get it and start. I believe it will have a big impact in my life! Last year God told me we were going on an adventure together this year so I'm excited to see what winning this book my Daddy has in mind for me to learn!!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos and precious thoughts! The ocean always give me such a sense of awe about God and His creation. Thanks for sharing them with all of us.
ReplyDeleteMy heart is continually drawn to the sea - as you know. Your photos are gorgeous and your words beautiful to my soul! It's time for me to go back to the place where my heart longs to be.
