God Bless America by Irving Berlin
While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free.
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer:
God bless America, land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home sweet home.
The other day at my grandson's baseball game, we all stood and faced the flag while our national anthem was played. All the Little Leaguers stood straight and tall with their hats over their hearts. Veterans in attendance gave the flag a military salute. I stood there with tears in my eyes, because the nation that I knew as a girl has so drastically changed. I remember singing "God Bless America" in my public school classroom and beginning each day by saluting the flag. Now we can't mention God in our schools and saluting the flag, knowing the national anthem, knowing the providence involved in our nation's founding is rare.
Like me, I'm sure you sincerely want God to bless America, but how do we cooperate with Him for that to happen? (Join me for the rest of this post on Sunday, July 3rd, at Woman to Woman Ministries where each Sunday I share a bit of Sunday Soul Food!)
Praying with you for spiritual awakening in our country!
ReplyDeleteOur small mountain town has a big parade on the 4th. We went to it today, and sat near the announcer's table. When the parade reached that point, it stopped. And one veteran gentleman played the national anthem on his trumpet. The crowd was silent. I tell you what - hearing that lone trumpet in the midst of our beautiful mountains and trees, well, I could hardly keep from crying my eyes out.
ReplyDeleteFreedom - may it ever ring. And may our country always be a nation under GOD.
GOD BLESS!
