I thought it would be fun to share with you some photos of my Bible journaling.
This is my second single column leather journaling Bible by Crossway.
Two years ago I journaled my way through the entirety of one of their Bibles.
Reading the scripture while interacting with it creatively was an amazing and impacting experience.
My one complaint was that the size of the text was so small.
I was thrilled when I learned that they recently produced one with larger text
so we bought one for our oldest daughter for her birthday.
It made me long to journal my way through the Bible again, and so I too got a copy of the larger text edition.
The wide margins can be used to take notes as well as to illustrate or highlight portions of the text.
For my artistic doodling I use Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens,
Staedtler Pigment Liner pens that come in a package of six point sizes,
and Crayon Twistable Colored Pencils.
The key to an enjoyable Bible journaling experience is to relax, lay aside perfectionism and to engage with the Bible in the same way we should engage with the Author, which is relationally.
In other words, use the generous margins of the journaling Bible in a way that suits your own uniqueness.
Since I'm almost equally right and left brained, you'll find some pages of my Bible filled creatively
and some filled with notes, lists, and original language word meanings.
The goal isn't to produce a masterpiece, but to let the masterpiece that is God's Word transform you!
still following,
Great post.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jim!
DeleteI love how you journal --very creative! It makes going back on these entries so much more fun.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a meditative and relaxing way to engage with my Bible reading.
DeleteWhat a fun way to study the Bible. I'm sure it's a way to remember the verses, too.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely is!
DeleteI have thought about getting a journaling Bible many times, but suspect I would have trouble with wanting my doodling to look just right. Gah. I see the irony, but it's still a hurdle. I love your handwriting and drawings. xo
ReplyDeleteYou should just dive in and give it a try! I bet you'd love it!
DeleteI've learnt something new and rewarding from your post. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat is so encouraging!
DeleteSome people are afraid to write in their Bible but I have always underlined verses that speak to me. With the creative touch to your bible, all you have to do is open it and you have instant encouragement!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I've always underlined and written notes in my Bible, but adding artwork to it has been a whole new level of enjoyment!
DeleteThese are lovely Elizabeth and your artwork is so great. I'm no artist, but with a group a year or so ago learned about Bible Journaling. I don't journal every page and mostly it is just printing or try calligraphy, but enjoy when I'm inspired too and hopefully will be a reminder of what I was thinking about when I read the scripture. Growing up I was told to never write in my Bible, but as I have now done so it is more rewarding and much more meaningful to me than just moving on. Enjoyed reading your blog. :)

The Bible is our love letter from God. I'm sure He wants us to interact with His words to us. I would love to see some of your calligraphy!

ReplyDeleteAnd what a treasure for your grandchildren! I have my dad's bible, which is just a few notes and underlined passages, but still I treasure it. How much more something like you've created!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Have a wonderful weekend!
