(Cape Horn, Columbia River Gorge)
Last Friday we took our annual drive up the Columbia River Gorge from our home in Vancouver, Washington to The Dalles, Oregon to pick up our order of fruit from Muirhead Canning. Sometimes we drive east on Hwy. 84 on the Oregon side of the gorge, but this year we drove up Hwy. 14 on the Washington side of the gorge. It was a gorgeous day for a drive.
We crossed the bridge over to the Oregon side of the gorge in Hood River. From our longtime home in Portland, Oregon, and now in Vancouver, Washington, the west side of Mt. Hood is a familiar sight. As we drew near to the cannery, Mt. Hood's north side could be clearly seen. We lived in the Hood River valley in the late eighties and early nineties, and this view greeted us each morning from our front room window! What a blessing it is to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!
still following,
So beautiful! I fell in love with the gorge the first time I saw it, and we've been back a couple of times. My hubby has to be seen at the VA in both Portland and Vancouver, so it's always a treat to do some exploring while we are there. Great shots! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteWe are blessed to live in the Pacific Northwest with all of its beauty aren't we?
DeleteThis just makes me smile...
ReplyDeleteWe stopped in Hood River for lunch and I was thinking of you!
DeleteThe contrast of yellow and green is gorgeous! I don't see much autumn color (when it comes in your spring!) as we have mostly pine trees.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of evergreen trees, too, but enough deciduous trees to get some autumn color!
DeleteOh my goodness it's so beautiful. I lived in Washington in the very early 80s when I was...well...much younger than I am now. We never got to Vancouver or Oregon though which I now regret. If only we knew then what we know now...
ReplyDeleteOh wow! What part of Washington did you live in?
DeleteSuch a beautiful landscape!
ReplyDeleteI'm blessed to live in such a lovely place!
DeleteSo beautiful! I hope to visit there someday.
ReplyDeleteMary, I think you'd love it!
DeleteThank you for sharing this stunning beauty!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to the Pacific Northwest? It's so beautiful!
DeleteWe have driven the Gorge from NE Oregon to the Portland area so many times in the 19 months since our only granddaughter was born...I keep saying we need to drive the Washington side sometime. Your photos make me even more determined to do it. Beautiful images of the exceptional scenery.
ReplyDeleteGrandbabies are worth driving for! The drive on the Washington side is a smaller, more windy road, but a prettier one in my opinion.
DeleteLovely photos. Washington and Oregon are two states that I have not yet visited, but will one day. I most definitely want to see the Columbia River Gorge the I do.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Sharon's Souvenirs
I think you'll love our beautiful Pacific Northwest!
DeleteWhat beautiful scenery photos. Especially like the one through the trees with the mountain in the far background. Nice...
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful place and your photos do it justice, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking part in the Travel Tuesday meme.
We love the Gorge and Mt. Hood is my favorite mountain! I loved following your travels on a beautiful fall day.
