Does God promise not to give us more than we can handle?
I've heard it said many times that God promises not to give us more than we can handle. It's often preceded by the words, "In the Bible it says". So, I've unsuccessfully tried to find a verse that says that. If you know of such a verse, please let me know. The Bible does say in 1 Corinthians 10:13,
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." But it seems to me that this verse is talking specifically about temptation. It is saying that God always provides a way of escape out of temptation. (Join me for the rest of this post on Sunday, May 19th, at Woman to Woman Ministries, where each Sunday I share a bit of Sunday Soul Food!)

Oh, that rendering of the verse in the Message is so gritty and realistic. And I'm thankful for the invitation to Pile those troubles onto Jesus.
ReplyDeleteEvery day, friend. Every day!
DeleteI've not found it either. However, I do believe the temptation to fear, to surrender, to quit is relieved by His strength and promise to help us endure whatever trial we may be facing. Thank you for sharing your post as it has given me the opportunity to remember that I can face anything with Him at my side. Now, just to face it......
ReplyDeleteMy husband often says, "If you don't quit, you win." Thank God that with HIs help we have the strength and endurance not to quit.
